Description & SpecificationsCraftsmanship, materials & dimensions
This handmade rasp steel cowboy knife carries on a tradition among working knifemakers — forged from a genuine farrier's rasp, the coarse file once used to shape horses' hooves. High-carbon and built for hard use, rasp steel makes a rugged, hard-wearing blade. The original file teeth are left visible on the spine, giving every knife a one-of-a-kind, hammered texture you won't find on a factory blade.
Hardened for Real Work
This blade is hardened to 58–60 HRC, holding a sharp edge while standing up to the rough treatment a ranch, trail, or hunting knife takes every day.
Built for the Cowboy Carry
The knife rides in a hand-tooled leather crossdraw pancake sheath, carrying the blade horizontally on the belt for easy access — whether you're on foot or in the saddle. At 8 inches overall with a 4-inch blade and a 4mm thick spine, it's compact, sturdy, and ready for ranch chores, fence work, and everyday cutting.
A True Crossover Knife
The drop-point blade with its deep belly isn't just for ranch work — it's an excellent hunting and skinning shape too. The curved edge glides smoothly through hide during field dressing, making this knife just as useful in the field as it is on the ranch.
Pine Cone Handle & Brass Bolster
The handle is made from stabilized pine cone resin — real pine cones set in resin — giving each knife a warm, textured look that's never quite the same twice. Paired with a polished brass bolster and a lanyard hole, the handle offers real character alongside a secure, comfortable grip. Full-tang construction runs the steel through the entire handle for strength and balance.
Hand-Forged in Wyoming
Every Rasp Steel Cowboy Knife is forged, ground, and finished by hand by Naqash and Younas Minhas of Forged by Vikings in Casper, Wyoming. No mass production — each blade's rasp texture and pine cone handle make it a true one-of-a-kind piece.
Caring for Your Rasp Steel Knife
Rasp steel is high-carbon steel, so a little care goes a long way. Wipe the blade clean and dry after use, and apply a light coat of oil before storage to prevent rust.
